In March, the group “Amici di don Luigi Monza” and the association “La Nostra Famiglia” decided jointly promoted the foundation of OVCI.
On the 4th of May, OVCI is notarially constituted.
Furthermore, the evaluation missions started, in response to the several requests by different developing Countries.
1983
After the evaluation mission in Juba (Southern Sudan), the project was officially submitted to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs by COE (another Italian NGO), and was finally approved.
In September, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially recognized OVCI as Non Governmental Organization.
The first volunteers’ groups on the Italian territory was born, composed by OVCI volunteers and supporters
1984
OVCI begun to cooperate with Esmeraldas Diocese (Ecuador), for the training of special teachers at the Catholic University (PUCESE).
On the 23rd of October, “Usratuna” Rehabilitation Centre is inaugurated in Juba (Southern Sudan)
1985
Launching OVCI project in Santana (Brazil): “Casa de Hospitalidade” is a new center for disabled children
1987
Launching OVCI project at leprosarium in Marituba (Brazil).
1989
Launching nutritional program for Juba: founded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1991
Ostuni OVCI group is actively involved in housing young Albanian refugees.
1992
Launching of the project “Pastoral do Menor in Santana” (Brazil).
1994
OVCI participated to the foundation of the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC).
1995
First mission in China and birth of the “International China Friendship Team”.
First OVCI course on Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) in Khartoum (Sudan).
1996
On 27 July: inauguration of the Pediatric Center "P. Luiz Monza" in Santana (Brazil).
1997
First departure of volunteers for short experience (one month) in Santana.
Launching the project of cooperation with the Catholic University in Esmeraldas.
OVCI participates in the foundation of the “Coordinamento Comasco per la Pace” (Como Peace Network)
1999
Establishment of the local NGO “Usratuna Sudanese Association for Disabled Children” in Khartoum (Sudan).
2000
OVCI project starts in Fang Shan (China).
OVCI begins a consulting service in Morocco for a project of the NGO AIBI.
Launching of the project to support USADC (Usratuna Sudanese Association Disabled Children) in Khartoum (Sudan).
2001
Evaluation mission and training of student educators in Romania.
OVCI involvement in Italian "Pididà" (National Convention on the Rights of the Child)
First course of “Terapisti Senza Frontiere” (Therapists without Frontiers)
Launching the Italian project “OVCI JUNIOR”.
Beginning of the FOCSIV convention for national and international civil service.
2002
OVCI participated to the drafting of the guidelines for international cooperation in the field of disability.
OVCI organized the first training course for project managers.
The new CBR project started in Esmeraldas.
2003
Realization of the CD on the rights of children with disabilities, and translation of a booklet on the rights of children, created by Radda Barnen (Save the Children Sweden).
2004
Launching of the program in Khartoum, to define a BSc degree in Rehabilitation Studies in partnership with the Ahfad University of Omdurman.
2005
Launching the three-year program “OVCI FOR YOUNGSTERS” for Italian boys and girls.
Starting the separate collection of refuse plastic caps.
Starting the fund raising campaign: "Work in progress" for OVCI projects in Sudan.
2006
Realization of the project: "Cultures on the way" with the specific aim of fostering a socio-cultural integration between Italian and non-Italian citizen.
