WHAT WE DO

OVCI was founded in 1982 by two Italian Institutions, prominent in the field of Medical Rehabilitation and Neurodevelopment Services: the association “la Nostra Famiglia” and the association “Gruppo Amici de la Nostra Famiglia”. From these two Promoters, OVCI acquired the mission to pursue the human development of vulnerable people with particular attention to the children with disabilities.
OVCI cooperates with developing Countries and implements  awareness projects in Italy; OVCI currently operates in the Federal Republic of Sudan (Khartoum and Central Equatorial States), Ecuador (Esmeraldas Province), Morocco (Rabat and sale Prefectures) and People’s Republic of China (Beijing Municipality).
In 1983 the first project of OVCI was implemented in Juba, Sud Sudan. Nowadays OVCI is the only NGO been continuously active in Southern Sudan throughout the 80’s and the 90’s, despite the civil conflict.

OVCI plans training opportunities to be implemented for the specialization of rehabilitation workers, and holds specialized training courses for the physiotherapists employed in its cooperation project.

Thanks to its consistent experience in the above mentioned field, the Organization can count on some interesting international conctacts. OVCI is indeed a member of the International Disability and Development Consortium IDDC, a global consortium of20 non-Governmental Organisations supporting disability and development work in more than 100 Countries around the world; IDDC is supported by the Rehabilitation Department of the World Health Organization.
OVCI also officially translated in Italian the WHO publications focused on community-based rehabilitation, as an effective strategy for increasing opportunities for people with disabilities.
OVCI translates several World Report on disability and rehabilitation.
Since 2000, the Organization collaborates with the Association “Fisioterapisti Senza Frontiere” for the training of rehabilitation workers who will be employed in Cooperation and Development projects.

OVCI is part of the Italian Federation “FOCSIV” and of the Italian “Association of the NGOs”.
