Since 1997, OVCI has offered young people the experience of Short Volunteering, because it considers it as:
- an experience of global education 'in the field', where you can experience all the cultural dynamics than can offer an opportunity for personal growth
- an action of development education, with a great chance of positive impact in Italy because young people, who live this experience, come back in Italy enriched and more sensitive
- an opportunity to raise awareness on issues of volunteering, in the Countries in which the experience is made.
For this reason, the Short Voluntary - for OVCI - must have an impact on everyday life: citizenship, testimony, social commitment. The Countries where it is possible to live this fantastic experience are Brazil and Ecuador.
By January, the group that will live the experience of summer Short Voluntary is constituted. It is planned a pre-departure training, and then a final check when the volunteers return. The volunteers who decide to leave will have to acquire a basic knowledge of the language of the host country (Brazilian Portuguese for Brazil, and Spanish for Ecuador). The experience is aimed at young people between 20 and 35 years. Travel costs and insurance are paid by the participants, while accommodation is provided by the host.
